Tosha Whitten-Griggs is a communications professional delivering nearly 15 years of strategic communications and public relations experience in the cable television, digital and entertainment practice areas. Currently, she’s working as a freelance PR specialist with projects that include the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the American Music Awards, and Kierra Sheard’s “Bold Right Life” CD premiere on EMI Gospel.
In her former position as Senior Director of Corporate Communications for Black Entertainment Television (BET- a subsidiary of Viacom) from May 2000 – May 2008, she directed public relations strategies and execution for BET’s entertainment programming and specials, which include the annual BET AWARDS, BET HIP HOP AWARDS and CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL, as well as past specials such as WALK OF FAME, BET COMEDY AWARDS, and BET’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. She was also responsible for media relations efforts for BET’s development slate and primetime/original programming, including 5 of the top-10 rated series in BET programming history such as AMERICAN GANGSTER, BALDWIN HILLS, HELL DATE, KEYSHIA COLE: THE WAY IT IS, and LIL’ KIM: COUNTDOWN TO LOCKDOWN as well as other hit shows such as COLLEGE HILL: VIRGIN ISLANDS, DMX: SOUL OF A MAN; ONE NIGHT ONLY; COMING TO THE STAGE; and COMICVIEW.
During her tenure at BET, she served as PR liaison for talent, executives and internal departments; managed communications strategy, outreach and executive visibility for internal client groups such as BET Animation, BET Films, and BET Home Entertainment; and led PR for world premiere films such as BACK IN THE DAY (starring Ving Rhames), BOOK OF LOVE (starring Robin Givens), BLACKOUT (starring Jeffrey wright), and WOMAN THOU ART LOOSED (starring Kimberly elise), to name a few. Prior to joining BET, she worked as an Account Executive at Shandwick Public Relations and Alexander Ogilvy Public Relations representing clients such as Microsoft, Compaq Computer Corp., Fisher-Price, Kodak and others.
